It is amazing to me the complaints I hear about gas prices because of the decision made to stop the proven psychotic Iranian dictators from completing their nuclear ambitions. Recognizing that they would have detonated these weapons or mass destruction against Israel and certainly would have tried in the U.S. as well, there was no choice. Their ability to unleash hell on earth, weeks away.
Tom Brokaw wrote a book and created an identifier for our grandparents and great grandparents called “The Greatest Generation,” that documented the willingness of that generation to go through years of real struggle and sacrifice for the greater good of Americans and humankind (now surrendering that ‘mankind’ is not an acceptable term). We have heard the stories and romanticized the shortage of food and fuel. Payroll happening in coins because paper was so short. Washing and reusing aluminum foil a practice that continued as witnessed by many of us with our grandparents. Moms and daughters leaving homes and working in our factories so America’s ‘boys’ fighting in Africa, Europe, the Pacific had what they needed for victory. The media celebrated America’s excellence. There was a commonality of cause and the cause was protecting the future of the generations to follow. The incredible losses of life were measured against the assurance of the future we now live. Truly a great generation, awaiting America’s next great generation to protect he from enemies foreign and domestic.
Sacrifice is required to effectively lead. Resolute resolve reveals itself in the face of temporary pain and momentary sacrifice. My generation is letting the generations behind us down as we fail to teach measurement in terms of decades gain versus a few weeks or months of ‘sacrifice.’
American was slow to enter WW1 because of a policy of strict neutrality that was shattered as the Germans unleashed their u-boats on our humanitarian-aide convoys crossing the Atlantic. Then, after failing to learn our lesson and yet again opting out when the World was on fire, Japan’s bombing of Pearl Harbor caused America to assume it needed role or rescuing the World from terror again. That horrid day in 9-11-2001 galvanized our Country against yet another attack that penalized us for apathy in the face of evil. And here we are again, questioning the value of proactivity versus pathetic lack of action.
“Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.” John Stuart Mill, 1867. This quote commonly rephrased as “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
I have lived the 47 years of Iran releasing its brand of psychotic and sociopathic ‘justice’ on the World. I have watched as Americans were held hostage because of a weak and ineffectual President, Jimmy Carter who chose diplomacy over courage, costing 52 Americans 444 days of their lives. (Carter was a very kind person, whose inaction came at massive cost and loss.). I have witnessed the Marine barracks bombing in Lebanon by Iran’s proxies that killed 222 U.S. Marines. I have watch the USS Cole bomber by al Qaeda, certainly enabled by Iran, kill 13 U.S. sailors. I have watched the Afghanistan gate bombing kill 13 U.S. soldiers while a weak President and administration sought to pacify fringe groups bent on silencing America’s leadership. I have been witness to ineffectual Presidents and administrations ‘kicking the can down the road’ at enormous cost, both financially and in American lives and in quality of life. Courage comes with real cost and lack thereof exponentially more. Intrinsic loss subtly caused by a desensitization to the threats occurring robs without awareness of the very theft taking place. A government who chooses cheaper gas over the safety and future of its people is not worthy to govern.
So why do I write this? Simply because I am tired of the complaining that a problem that has plagued my lifetime, is being dealt with. I struggle with those protesting what is unknown, facilitated by media and politicians committed to chang the fundamental basis that is America. We MUST be teaching our children that momentary sacrifice for generational security is worth the cost. Every time I am watching $100 drop into the tanks of our cars, I am thanking the Lord that I can pay the price and thanking him for the vehicle and thanking him for leadership with the courage to eradicate evil from our World.
To be clear, I don’t care what your politics are. I do care about America and the freedoms that our Country has consistently endeavored to protect for 250 years. We are in perilous times and the lack of understanding of history places America in jeopardy as never before.
Short-term sacrifice for long-term safety is a cost too expensive to not pay. God bless America.
