Can you imagine the mocking and judgmental comments being aimed at Noah and his three sons as they built the Ark?
Now for context, the argument can be made that the people on earth had never seen rain. (Genesis 2). Certainly the people of the day had not experienced floods. So it is reasonable to understand why the mob would gang up on crazy Noah and his boys as they built this massive boat for 75 years, + or -.
There is a maxim that says you cannot lead by committee. Effective leadership surrounds themselves with wise counsel and considers the input, then makes the call. I am certain that there were times that Noah’s wife and sons said “are you sure?” And while we are not told this in scripture, I have to believe that Noah questioned God privately; “Father, are you sure.”
The critical point here is that questioning is okay as long as it does not derail the purpose and commitment to the vision.
I have recently been involved with some amazingly brilliant minds and I marvel at their intellect and input. The statement “paralysis by analysis” defines this group fairly well. Their scientific minds consider the multitude of channels that research can take, resulting in no path being pursued. They have recently committed to a path after some good and direct discussions. We’re taking another step.
My point is this. If you are waiting for unanimous and at times even majority agreement, what has been placed on your heart may go stale or may be assigned to a ‘doer.’ Trust what God has assigned to you.
Pick a lane and commit to it. I can make the argument that if it has been placed upon your heart, the ability abides within you. Most journeys are lonely and filled with hills and valleys. That doesn’t mean don’t go. What I encourage you to recognize is the purpose, joy, contentment and realized identity, may be in the journey. The destination may be perpetual until this life is over.
Surround yourself with people who give wise counsel. Then, recognize there is a reason why you were chosen for what has been placed upon your heart. The naysayers were certainly knocking on the doors of the Ark as those floodwaters arose. Trust what God has placed within you. Then, take a step.
That’s enough.
